Practical Mommy’s Top 5 Parenting Posts

It’s been a whirlwind year here at PracticalMommy.com! I started this blog in December 2014 with dreams of creating a place for moms with little kids to find some peace amidst the chaos and some answers to life’s little nagging frustrations, like “how do I get my kids to eat their veggies?” The response from everyone has been overwhelming. The top 5 posts from 2015 are all parenting related actually, which is amazing! I hope these posts have helped other moms as much as writing them has helped me be a better mother this year.

In order of popularity, Practical Mommy’s Top 5 Parenting Posts from 2015.

#1 – Dealing with Mommy Anger and Frustration

This was a powerful post for me to write and it’s no wonder this is #1 on the list. It’s always hard to open yourself up and be vulnerable, especially with the areas of your life and parenting that you think need work. But that’s the beauty of building a community for moms that is built on trust and reality. I’m not here to sugar coat the truth. Being a mother is hard and something you have to work at every day. Some days are better than others and we all need to realize that. But every day we try to be a better mother is a step in the right direction.

#2 – Teach Your Child To Be Kind

This post is part of the Parenting Lounge series, as well as the next three posts. In the series, I asked other moms some serious parenting questions. They were questions I knew I wanted the answer to, so I knew other moms must too. But I don’t have all the answers – so the next best thing is to ask other moms what they do. This post was all about how we as mothers can teach our children to be kind.

#3 – Let Go Of The Pacifier

Ah, pacifiers! Such lifesavers for moms everywhere. BUT there comes a point when they need to be let go of. Both of my daughters used a pacifier and letting go was harder for me than for them I think. Pacifiers can become a powerful habit for little ones, that might be hard to break. But also, the fear of creating stress and fear for your baby can be even harder for moms. I followed up this post with 10 Ways to Let Go of the Pacifier.

#4 – Your Kid’s First Cell Phone

We live in a changing world of electronic devices and social media. Kids are exposed to these things sooner and sooner, and parents have to think about what they plan on doing before something happens by default. You might think you have years to think about this issue, but the fact is that kid’s are using cell phones earlier and earlier. My 2 year old knows how to find her favorite apps on my phone. So, I’m asking you, when will your kids get their first cell phone? Something to think about.

#5 – Deciding To Have Another Baby (when you feel like a failure as a mother)

This was another one of those posts that almost didn’t get written. It was just so personal to me and something I was struggling with, I wasn’t sure about making myself that vulnerable. But, again, it’s something I think other moms are wondering about and I felt like I needed to discuss it. And I am so glad I did! In case anyone is curious how it all turned out – I am currently pregnant with baby #3. It took a lot of thought and soul searching, but we decided to have another baby and it’s one of the best things that has come out of 2015 for us as a family.

What does 2016 hold for Practical Mommy?

Well as you can imagine, with a baby due in March, I won’t have as much time to blog. But I don’t intend on going anywhere! In 2016, I will be focusing more on parenting posts, and less on crafts and recipes. I would really love to see you on our Facebook page too. One of my big goals for 2016 is to amp up the discussions and community through Facebook, so I hope you join us there for some great conversation.

  1. Our first real cell phone is around the corner…. my kids have always gotten our hand-me-down iphones but never the ability to call someone. It’s freaks me out!

Thanks for being part of the best positive parenting series on The Jenny Evolution. I’m so happy to have you as part of my parenting community 🙂

  2. Hey Kristen, I can see why these are some of your most popular posts–I want to read all of them! The topics really resonate with me as mom who is often overwhelmed, often feels like I’m failing and who often worries about the day when my kids need cell phones 🙂

    • I’m so glad you can relate! I want moms to know that it’s ok to feel overwhelmed – you’re still doing a good job. It’s just a really hard job with long hours. 🙂
