It was one of those days where we needed a sweet snack and I didn’t have anything prepared. I was running behind like usual, but it was the weekend, the game was on, my kids were running amok and we needed something sweet and salty to snack on. Luckily, I had all the ingredients for this delicious snack in the kitchen and it only took a few minutes to make. This Dark Chocolate and Bacon Popcorn is a decadent treat with dark chocolate drizzled on top of popcorn and spicy and sweet seasoned bacon.

This popcorn I made special for my hubby. He helped with the bacon seasoning, but I did all the work (not that it was that much work). My kids loved it and made a big chocolaty mess on their faces and hands while they ate it.

The bacon seasoning is optional and you can choose to make it spicy or not. The sugar added a nice touch of sweetness that complements the dark chocolate and also the salt bacon.

This would be a great hit for a SuperBowl party or game night. I mean really, anything with bacon is going to be a hit with the guys. There also isn’t so much bacon that you have to worry about the ladies ruining their diets.

I also made a S’mores popcorn using the same methods with melted chocolate and marshmallow. They were a huge hit! You should consider setting up a popcorn bar with these two specialty popcorns and also plain and buttered and maybe homemade Caramel Popcorn (recipe from Pennies Into Pearls). What a buffet that would be!

I usually have to stay away from bacon because of my gallstones. But the biggest thing I have done to improve my gallbladder health is to improve my diet overall. And a few pieces of bacon in moderation helps me to feel that I am not depriving myself of something I used to love – I’m just enjoying it in moderation.

I already mentioned that the kids will love it too. The chocolate and the popcorn is perfect for little kids to snack on. Just keep plenty of wipes and napkins around to wipe their hands and faces.

How fun! Love the idea that it can be last minute. And the bacon – my husband would love that. We were at a gourmet food store the other day and he pointed out Every Single Thing that had bacon in it – bacon candy bars, bacon donuts, bacon bacon bacon 😉

I’m pretty sure I’d eat way too much of this but it would totally be worth the extra time on the treadmill!
