Using a Google shared calendar is a very simple way to stay organized as a mommy. Your Google calendar is connected to your Gmail account and can be accessed on your phone, your tablet, and your computer. It syncs automatically between devices and can also sync with another person’s Google calendar. Here are some simple ways to get even more organized using your Google calendar.
How To Get More Out Of Your Google Shared Calendar
Tip #1 – Use your reminders
I have a lot of family out of state. I am constantly scrambling at the last minute and sending birthday cards and gifts late. If I set my reminder about 7 days in advance, I’ll know that I need to mail a gift or card before it’s too late. It is super easy in your Google shared calendar to set multiple reminders.I’ve set my first reminder for 7 days early so I can get a gift or card ready. I’ve set my second reminder for 30 minutes before the birthday so I can call or Skype with them that day.
Key: Plan ahead so you don’t have to scramble at the last minute.
Tip #2 – Sync your calendar
Connect your calendar to your smartphone or tablet so you can get your reminders sent directly to where you are. You don’t need to worry about checking your calendar every day. The important things will be sent directly to you.

Tip #3 – Set up multiple calendars in one
My Google shared calendar is set up with about 5 different calendars. I have one for when all my bills are due. I have another for all my family related appointments. I have a calendar for my blogging schedule too. Each calendar has its own color (that I select) and all the appointments on my calendar are shown in that color. I can also sort my calendar to show all, some, or just one of the calendars. If I’m working on my bills, I can just show my bills and focus on that. I tried having multiple calendars (a paper calendar, an Outlook calendar, etc.) for different areas of my life and it never worked well. I work better when I have one place to go all the time. I can’t forget which calendar I wrote something in.

Tip #4 – Share your calendar
Now my husband and I have a shared Family calendar where we can add appointments and sync with both of our phones. The best part is that we have one shared calendar but he doesn’t have to see any personal or business reminders of mine that he doesn’t need. This is another great reason to have multiple calendars set up in your Google calendar.

Tip #5 – Add an address
This one is really cool. There is a field called “Where” on each appointment. Start typing in your address and it automatically fills in addresses that match. Select the address for you appointment. Then when it’s in your appointment, you can click on the Map next to the address and see where you are going and get directions. It couldn’t be easier!

Bonus Tip – Be consistent
If you use your Google shared calendar consistently, you will build a habit to stay organized. Don’t let life get in the way! It only takes a minute to set up an appointment and it will help you know what you have planned.
