I have a confession – I am a purse hoarder. I am always looking for my next perfect purse. When I got pregnant with my first child, I was so excited at the thought of being able to carry a diaper bag. I felt I could finally join some elite club that had the coolest bags.

Purses – Must-have for women and mothers
I looked online for the perfect diaper bag. I looked in stores and “tried on” bag after bag. I lusted after the expensive Coach diaper bags that I couldn’t afford. I tried justifying the huge price tag to my inner self and my husband and just couldn’t do it.
The best diaper bags:
I eventually found a diaper bag I loved. I loved all the pockets and spots for everything. But as a mom who works outside the home, I found that I didn’t really use a diaper bag like I thought I would. I guess I had some “first time mommy” expectations about what I was supposed to do as a mom with a baby and having a diaper bag filled with all kinds of baby stuff always with me was one of those things.
The fact of the matter was, I wasn’t with my baby 24/7 and I didn’t need a diaper bag! I commuted to a corporate office every day and actually a diaper bag was one of the last things I needed. And when I was with my baby all the time, on the weekend, I was usually in a hurry to get out the door and forgot to make sure I had what I needed.
For a while I struggled with what I thought I was supposed to do (have a cute diaper bag filled with baby stuff all the time) and what I actually needed (a real purse).
How to combine diapers and great looking clutches?
Let me tell you, letting go of those diaper bag expectations is what finally gave me the answer.
And this ONE SIMPLE TRICK will free you from your diaper bag disasters as well.
You don’t need a ton of baby things to survive out and about with your baby. All you need is some diapers, some wipes, a changing pad, a snack or two, and a bottle or sippy cup.
These days, as a mom of two with another one on the way, I have a fairly small cross body bag (I highly recommend a cross body for moms, it stays put when you are struggling to get your kids in those carseats). It holds my wallet, my phone, a small notebook, some lip gloss and lotion. That’s it. When I had a larger bag, I just ended up carrying around junk I never used. Now, I carry only what I need.
A small compact diaper and wipes clutch with a built in changing pad was the solution to ALL my problems. Throw that thing in a tote bag with a sippy and snack and you are good to go!
A diaper clutch is what I use every time I head out of the house with a baby. I also have a larger cross body purse that I sometimes use, that this fits into. So I can either use a temporary tote bag, or throw it all in a larger purse just for those outings with a baby.
The best diaper clutches:
I have also gifted this same diaper clutch to other moms to be at baby showers. Since this is one of the best things I ever received at mine, I feel like it’s only right to share the mom love and experience with the products that really made my life as a mommy easier.
So perfect! Something I could have used when I used a diaper bag…I found it to be too big and cumbersome.
Me too!
After my kids were about a year old, my purse was my diaper bag. I hated lugging the big diaper bags around when I only needed wipes and a few diapers and a change of clothes.
I think it was about a year in with my first that I just gave up on the whole diaper bag thing too. Like you said, all you need is a few diapers and wipes.
What a great idea! I tend to do the opposite, I have a purse used as a diaper bag full of diapers, extra clothes potty seat for toddler, snacks, etc. and I have a wallet/clutch with a wristlet that changes bags when I go somewhere.
I tried that too, but it didn’t seem to work as well for me.
