Have you ever heard the term “life balance” and asked yourself “what does that even MEAN!?”
I was inspired by Christy Wright’s new book, “Business Boutique: A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves” (which I received an advanced reader copy). She wrote:
At the end of the day, [life balance] is about creating your own version of balance. It’s about doing more of what you love and less of what you don’t, while creating a life you’re proud of in the process. – Christy Wright, “Business Boutique: A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves”

5 Ways To Make Life Balance Work For You
Do more of what you love
Write down your priorities – the things you love to do, that give you strength and happiness. Find a way to do more of that. It seems obvious, but you will be surprised when you actually sit down and consider this.
Do less of what you don’t love
So many times, we let other little things take us away from the things we love. These are things that we feel like we “have” to do for whatever reason. Maybe it’s volunteering at your kid’s school or something else you feel compelled to do.
Take a minute to think about those things…what can you take off the list? Can you replace it with something that would add more positivity to your life? Can you trade the work with someone else?
The point is that you should think really hard before saying Yes to something you’re going to regret later. You don’t want to fill up your precious schedule with little things that aren’t on your list of priorities.

Prioritize your To-Do list
Once you have what your lists ready of the things you love to do and the things you don’t love to do, it’s time to create your To Do list. This is where your prioritize all the things you need to do to keep life working.
Don’t just make a random list of the things you need to do. You might get a lot of stuff done, but feel like you haven’t accomplished the important stuff at the end of the day.
I know I am guilty of this! I’m a procrastinator and I use my To-Do list to procrastinate. It sounds backwards, but I will complete all the easy and the fun stuff and leave the tough things until the last minute.
When you create priorities, you know what you need to get done FIRST and don’t get stuck waiting until the last minute when due dates come up.

Be 100% present wherever you are
Women are notorious for our multi-tasking skills. And I used to be proud of the fact that I could do so much at the same time.
But you know what? I realized that the quality of my life was suffering because I wasn’t giving my 100% focus and attention to anything…including my kids.
It’s a struggle to focus on just one thing at a time, but it’s totally worth it.
Make sure to make space for YOU
Don’t forget to make room in your priorities for the things you love to do just for yourself. Maybe it’s going to the gym, reading a fiction book, or taking a bubble bath – it may not seem as important as other things, but having that personal space in your day is necessary.

This is so helpful! I work full-time in an office and am also working on starting my blog while being mom to a wonderful 4 month old. It’s so true that you really have to focus on doing what you love to make doing everything possible. You mention multi-tasking less – do you find you’re able to follow your own advice? I try, but I always find myself doing at least 4 things at once!
