Afghanistan Has A New Puppet On Sesame Street
In the program Baghsh-e-Simsim, which is the name of Sesame Street there, there is a new doll. She is a girl and her name is Zari. Zari is very smart and has lots of colorful hair. She will support Ernie, Bert, and the other dolls there in Sesame Street. But above all, people have thought of a reason why they are bringing Zari to Sesame Street. With Zari, they want to make sure that parents and also children learn to understand how important school is. Zari, the doll with the orange button nose and the brightly colored hair, is supposed to be a role model.
Many Girls Do Not Go To School
In Afghanistan, many girls are not even sent to school by their parents. Just imagine, in the years from 1996 to 2001, it was even forbidden for girls to attend school. Therefore, there are very few women in the country who can read and who can write. Women should marry early and have children. That should be their task. Hopefully, with Zari’s help, this can be made a little better.
Explanation Of The Difficult Words:
Afghanistan is a landlocked country of South Asia at the crossroads of South Asia and Central Asia, bordering Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, the People’s Republic of China, and Pakistan. The name Afghanistan literally means land of the Afghans. The country is mostly mountainous.
Here in this video, you can see what Zari looks like. Unfortunately, the video is only in English, but maybe you can understand it:
