Every weekday morning, I promise myself that I will plan ahead next time and get the kids lunches together early before I go to bed. But every night I am completely and utterly exhausted and decide to do it in the morning. It’s a vicious cycle really, but one that most moms can relate to. Do you stay up late to have some time to yourself to get stuff done, or go to sleep because you’re completely exhausted?

DIY Ice Pack Sponge - I can't believe how easily she makes an ice pack for school lunches.

Not only is planning ahead difficult for us moms, we also have to rely on expensive specialized products that we feel like we NEED to have to survive motherhood. Nope! You don’t need expensive ice packs that most likely are going to get lost at school anyway. You DO need a way to keep the cold food cold until lunch time though. But this is a super easy way to keep things cool until lunch.

Step 1 – Get a sponge and a resealable bag

Step 2 – Wet the sponge

Step 3 – Seal the wet sponge in the bag

Final result – A cheap and easy ice pack to keep the cheese sticks cold until lunch time
