Many German companies and enterprises are complaining about a lack of Skilled workers’ lamentation. But there are enough applicants for apprenticeships. This is mainly due to the fact that it is still the case that applicants with a secondary school leaving certificate have no chance and are not hired by the companies.

Description Of Job Advertisements Is Already An Obstacle
In a study, the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE found that more than 60 percent of job descriptions are worded in such a way that Hauptschule students do not stand a chance. Out of 44,000 open positions, Hauptschule students have no chance of getting one of these training positions in more than 61 percent of these jobs. Even in occupations such as hotel or restaurant management, the chances are very poor. But it is precisely in these areas that people complain particularly strongly that too few trainees are being found. But these are only two examples of occupational groups and there are many more. For example, anyone with a secondary school diploma who wants to train in banking or office work has virtually no chance.
Experts Call For A Rethink
Experts are therefore now calling for a rethink on the part of businesses and companies. Instead of complaining about a lack of skilled workers, they should simply give secondary school graduates more opportunities. Although this number of young people with a secondary school leaving certificate has fallen significantly in recent years, too many of them still remain without an apprenticeship. In the last ten years, the proportion of students with a lower secondary school leaving certificate has fallen by 35 percent. Today, only 17 percent of all students leave school with a Hauptschule certificate. All the others have a higher degree to show for it.
But even if this figure is falling, one thing should be clear to all of you. If you want to learn a great profession, later on, you should study hard at school and get a better degree. Otherwise, the dream job will remain just a dream forever.
Explanation Of The Difficult Words
Skilled workers are people who have successfully completed a good education in industrial, commercial, or other fields and can thus help a company with its knowledge and skills.
The IHK is the chamber of commerce and industry. All those who operate a trade or run a business belong to this IHK. In Germany, there are about 80 IHK’s, which are spread over different regions of the country.
