I first discovered Yummly in relation to the blog, because I was looking for a way to deliver recipes that would make it easy for my readers to save and print the recipes on Practical Mommy. After only a short time, I realized how great it was personally too! My biggest pet peeve with recipes – ok, I have two really. One is little pieces of paper everywhere, because I used to write recipes down or print them. My second pet peeve is finding great recipe apps on my phone, but only being able to save recipes from the app. What about all the other delicious recipes across the web? I still had little pieces of paper everywhere. However, now with Yummly, I can save everything in one place. Let me tell you how!
There are a few ways to save recipes on Yummly.
#1 – Yum Button
On Practical Mommy, there are two Yum buttons on every recipe.
There is one button along the side – button number 2 in the bar is Yummly. There is also a small Yum button at the top of the recipe next to the recipe name. Clicking on either of those buttons will add the recipe to your recipe box.
#2 – Yummly Extension for Chrome
This is my favorite way to save recipes from across the Internet. Because not every website may have a Yum button, but you still want to save it in your Yummly Recipe Box. To add the extension, just be sure you are using Chrome as your internet browser. Open a new tab and Google “Yummly extension.” It is also called a Bookmarklet.
Find the Yum Button in the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
Now when you are on a website with no Yum button, just click on the Y button in your toolbar and the recipe will be saved to your Yummly recipe box.

#3 – Add your own recipes to Yummly
The final way to save your favorite recipes are for all those slips of paper everywhere. If you have an old recipe passed down from Grandma, you can manually type in the recipe to Yummly and save it forever in electronic format.
There is even an app you can download to your phone to have your recipes with you wherever you go.
Hope this helps with your recipe collections – it has certainly helped me! Let me know what you love best about Yummly in the comments.

How do you manually type in a recipe? I can’t figure it out.
Hi Brian, I emailed Yummly and they said they removed that feature. They might or might not bring it back. Sorry about that!
