Preeclampsia / EPH Gestosis

Women who give birth for the first time, are over 35 or are expecting multiples can get this condition during pregnancy. However, this is rare and is counted on only the mild cases.

In this case, blood pressure rises, urine contains protein and edema forms. There is severe swelling of the feet and hands. If all complications occur together, the chance of pre-eclampsia is very likely. It is believed that the body cannot cope with the demands of pregnancy on its own.

It often develops after the 20th week of pregnancy. The mother’s health is checked regularly and if any deterioration occurs, the baby must be delivered. In this case, the baby has a good chance of survival nowadays. If pre-eclampsia is not treated, then it can cause damage to the liver, kidneys and brain and also lead to death.

Placenta Praevia

Normally, the placental surface covers the inner wall of the upper uterine segment. However, in the case of placenta praevia, it covers the lower segment. Thus, when the baby is about to enter the birth canal, the placenta is in front of the baby. The pregnancy must then be terminated by cesarean section because the placenta blocks the baby’s path.

Placenta praevia is usually discovered during an ultrasound examination and is the main cause of bleeding, which can occur after the 20th week of pregnancy.
