Important Criteria For A New Baby Crib
If you want to buy a bed for your child, you should pay attention to several criteria for the sake of comfort and safety. Today, the selection of great furniture for the child is greater than ever, but the quality is not right for all products. If consumers think about what is important in advance, they are on the safe side.
Safety First
Before the question of modern design and high-quality workmanship comes to the fore, the issue of safety comes first. The well-known German test seals provide initial information about whether the baby beds really meet the requirements in terms of safety. Here, the GS mark, the corresponding DIN mark and the TÜV mark are particularly decisive. If the new bed brings one of these seals, parents can usually relax.
Also Interesting:
According to current German law, furniture for the child should also contain the name of the manufacturer and the corresponding DIN number with a current date. Which DIN standards are specifically important, dealers tell interested customers when they buy the baby bed online.
High-quality Workmanship Improves Comfort For Both Child And Parents
To ensure that the baby feels comfortable all around and cannot injure itself, the workmanship must also be right. Before placing a child in the new bed, parents should check the stability. This depends on the one hand on the materials used and on the other hand on the construction. In addition, attention must be paid to sharp edges or corners. If the wood used has not been sufficiently processed, splinters may be present, for example.
Non-toxic varnishes or glazes ensure that children’s saliva on the bars or headboard is not a problem for the child’s health. If there are no cross elements that even very small children can pull themselves up on, the bed offers greater safety and is “escape-proof”.
The baby bed should not have any loose parts that the child could swallow. In addition, the closures for grids or doors must be adequately secured so that the child cannot open them. Health-compatible materials and pollutant-free colors also ensure that children can be placed in the new bed with a clear conscience. Of course, the same requirements also apply to the toddler bed.
These Dimensions Are Advantageous
Meanwhile, modern baby beds are offered in quite different dimensions. When buying it is important that the bed brings such dimensions, which can be considered common. If there is room for conventional mattresses, it will facilitate the further equipment of the bed immensely. Most baby beds are 70 by 140 centimeters and thus offer enough space. If the child is to be able to stay in the crib as it grows older, the bed must be correspondingly wider and longer. It is better not to go below these standard dimensions, otherwise the child’s range of movement will be restricted.
The distances between the individual slats of the bed base are also important so that the child can sleep well. Here, the distance should be a maximum of 60 centimeters. There is also a maximum dimension for the distance between the slats – if any. If the distances are greater than 60 millimeters, they are considered more risky than bars with less clearance. When the baby grows up, a crib will certainly be necessary later.
If the baby crib is to be equipped with new textiles, the rule here is: Less is more. When buying a baby bed, parents should make sure that not only the child together with the bedding can be well accommodated. There must also be room for cuddly toys, music boxes and additional pillows. Otherwise, textiles should not take up too much space on the mattress.
