Queen Elizabeth II Visits Germany

On Tuesday evening Queen Elizabeth II British queen arrived in Germany for a visit. She was welcomed together with her husband Prince Philip at the airport in Berlin. On the way to her hotel, many people cheered the Queen.

Visiting Germany For The Fifth Time

The English Queen is now visiting Germany for the fifth time. On Wednesday, the first official appointment was on the program and German president Joachim Gauck received the royal couple at the Bellevue Palace received. Joachim Gauck’s partner was also there and after the reception, the two couples took a boat trip on the Spree to see Berlin a little bit. On the banks of the Spree River and on the bridges, many people were waiting to greet and wave to the Queen. After the tour by boat Queen Elizabeth II was then expected by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Tight Program Until Friday

The Queen of England will stay in Germany until today, Friday, to see other things and cities. For an old lady like the Queen, who is after all already 89 years old, this is already quite a dense and exhausting program. Elizabeth II visited Germany for the first time 50 years ago. At that time, however, she visited for eleven days. This time it is much shorter, but the people here in Germany are still happy about her visit.

Explanation Of The Difficult Words

Queen Elisabeth is the British queen. On February 6, 1952, she was made Queen after the death of her father King George the Sixth. The Queen is the head of state in Great Britain and represents her country all over the world.

The German president is something similar to the Queen. His most important task is to represent Germany in a dignified way all over the world. The President is elected by the Bundestag but has no rights (a few small….) in the German government.

The Bellevue Palace building in the Tiergarten district of Berlin is the first official residence of the German president. Meaningfully translated, it is also called “Beautiful View”.

The Spree is a 400 km long river that flows through the German states of Saxony, Brandenburg, and Berlin. The river rises in the Upper Lusatian Mountains near the border with the Czech Republic. The Spree flows through Berlin for 44 kilometers and later joins the Havel River.
