The 14 Best Circular Hand Saws – Guidebook

Hand-held circular saws are primarily used for precision work and impress here with a clean cut. Especially for long and straight cuts, the accuracy of the hand-held circular saw is indispensable. Thus, the hand-held circular saw is ideal for renovation work at home. At the same time, modern models of the hand-held circular saw are very handy and easy to use.

To make your search for the perfect circular saw easier, we have written a checklist for you, which provides you with all the facts and figures about the circular saw. In addition, there is an overview of various circular saws in our product recommendation.

Checklist For Frame Saws

The Different Models
  • In addition to the classic hand-held circular saw, there are also saws in a smaller format, the so-called mini hand-held circular saws and cordless cordless hand-held circular saws. The all-rounder is the standard hand-held circular saw, although the ever-improving battery-powered variants are clearly gaining in popularity.
  • Mini hand-held circular saws have a much smaller saw blade than conventional hand-held circular saws. They are very suitable for fine cuts and for use in hard-to-reach places. Their saw blade has a diameter of about 60 to 100 mm, while their big brother usually comes up with saw blades with 160 to 190 mm. With the right saw blade, you can cut wood and metal up to a thickness of 120 to 160 mm with a mini handheld circular saw.
  • A cordless hand-held circular saw is maximally flexible, but usually can’t match the performance of mains-powered hand-held circular saws. Even if the quality of the lithium-ion batteries used has improved significantly, you have to accept small sacrifices for the untethered “freedom”.
The Performance
  • In order for you to work quickly and efficiently, the power of the motor of circular saws plays a major role. We recommend that you choose a hand-held circular saw with more than 1200 watts. The higher the wattage, the harder and thicker materials you can cut through effortlessly. For cutting laminate and parquet, however, a mini hand-held circular saw is usually sufficient, as it is much easier to handle than a larger and therefore heavier normal hand-held circular saw.
The Speed
  • The idle speed indicates how fast the saw blade turns per minute. The higher the speed, the cleaner and easier the cut. We recommend you use a hand-held circular saw with a speed of at least 5000 – 6000 rpm.
The Saw Blade
  • The diameter of the saw blade determines how thick the workpiece you want to cut can be. A good hand-held circular saw should have a cutting depth of at least 55 mm for a 90 degree cut. Better models even manage 60 to 70 mm.
Weight
  • Basically, the higher the power, the heavier the motor. That’s why you should always keep your work process in mind when choosing your saw . For example, one-handed and overhead work is naturally made more difficult by the additional weight.
Cleanliness
  • Models with suction supports make your work much easier. You can connect these to a vacuum cleaner so that you integrate cleanup into the work process and don’t have to worry about chips and dirt in sensitive areas.
