- Pay attention to stability and the manufacturer’s instructions regarding maximum load, location and set-up.
- Be well informed about different exercises and their sequences: Since no trainer can correct you, you have to pay even more attention to them.

- Make sure you wear sturdy, stabilizing shoes.
- Do not forget todrink.

FAQ For Home-Gyms
A home gym should be set up according to individual training goals. For an all-rounder basic equipment is suitable various dumbbells and barbells, at least one way to warm up (eg bike, cross trainer, treadmill, …), a mat and small space-saving additions such as jump ropes, pull-up bars for the door frame, balance trainer or possibly a gym ball and fascia rollers. Water bottles are also a must, of course. A window for fresh air is also beneficial.
A fitness room needs a certain size to fit all the equipment and accessories. At least +/- 20 square meters is recommended. However, this can vary depending on the training goal and desired equipment.
Strength training builds muscle, which increases the body’s basal metabolic rate. As a result, the body’s calorie consumption becomes greater and “you can eat more without gaining weight”. In addition, sufficiently strong muscles protect the body from too much load on the skeleton of bones. Exercise stimulates the metabolism and facilitates the transport of calcium to the bones(bone formation). Especially for people over 60 (or with osteoporosis), regular strength training is recommended to strengthen the body in active and passive tissues.
The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a protein intake of 1g per kilogram of body weight. For athletes , a minimum of 1.2g/kg and a maximum of 2g per kilogram of body weight are recommended. Fitness experts tend to be on the higher end of this spectrum.
For a home gym, rubber mats of at least 10mm thickness are recommended. This will protect your floor and the cushioning effect will protect your joints when you put the weights down.
You should budget at least 1000 euros if you want to buy a home gym. With various accessories you are also quickly at 2000 – 4000 euros.
Buying a home gym seems to make more sense here. Running can be done outside most of the year, while fitness equipment is not so readily available.
