Although it is not a real racing motorcycle, it comes very close to one in terms of its functions and is therefore well suited for beginners

However, since it is not equally suitable for all ages , you should consider some important things before buying . Checklist for Pit-Bikes

Design
  • Pit bikes are smaller than normal motorcycles and are therefore also ridden by children .
  • There are basically two different types. For children, the children’s motorcycle is often resorted to. The wheel sizes here are 17 inches and 14 inches.
  • There are also smaller variants with wheels of 12 and 14 inches. The front wheel is always larger.
  • Then there are the CRF 50 , which are pit bikes that can also be ridden by adults.
  • They often have a larger displacement of 250 CC.
  • The pit bikes are also powered by an oil-cooled engine.
Age recommendation
  • There is no classic age recommendation for pit bikes. Here it is important what height, weight and experience your child has.
  • For riders under 10 years, it is recommended to go for variants with 110 CC.
  • When your child sits on the pit bike, his feet should be on the ground, but only with the tips of the feet.
  • If the feet are firmly on the ground, a larger size should be used to take the weight off the suspension .
  • Weight has an impact on the need for suspension. Up to 75 kg pit bikes under 250 CC are sufficient, with a higher weight models from 250 CC should be used.
Equipment
  • In terms of equipment , a look can be made at the fairing. This is kept very practical on pit bikes.
  • Here there are various colors from which to choose.
  • For some pit bikes, it is still possible to customize the design .
  • The exhaust silencer gives an indication of what volume can be achieved.
  • The tank volume is also relevant. With a tank of more than 5 liters, your child will have more driving fun.
Safety
  • Check the brakes. Depending on the wheel size , the brake discs have a different size. At 17 inches, the brake discs should be 220 mm .
  • A single-piston brake system increases braking power.
  • Pit bikes are not equipped with lights . They are vehicles that are not approved for road use.

A pit bike is a small version of a racing motorcycle. They are not street legal and there are versions for children and adults

At what age is it allowed to ride a pit bike?

There is no general rule for a minimum age regarding pit bike use. In general, you should follow the manufacturer’s instructions as well as the individual abilities and development of the child. It is also important to know that pit bikes are not street legal. Children should generally ride under supervision and wear appropriate protective clothing (helmet, joint protectors). Pit bikes are generally not suitable for toddlers and kindergarten children. A general age recommendation can therefore be made for children 10 years and older

How much does a pit bike cost?

A pit bike is not exactly cheap to buy and therefore costs at least between 700 and 900 euros. Some models even have a price of up to 1300 euros. If you want to ride the bike regularly, a purchase makes sense despite the high price
