- Washing machine: here there are top-loading or front-loading variants with different filling capacities.
- Tumble dryer: heat pump or condensation dryer.
- Washer-dryer: combination device with washing and drying function, particularly space-saving.
- Iron: Steam iron or the common dry iron.
- Sewing machines for repairing damaged garments.
- Each garment has care instructions attached toan inside seam.
- There you will find care recommendations, e.g. at which temperature you should wash the garment, whether you can iron it (and how hard) and whether it is dryer-safe.
- Be especially careful when washing wool and silk.
- A “P” means that you should take the garment to a professional dry cleaner.
- If each sign is crossed out, you must wash the garment by hand. This is usually suggested by the first symbol, which otherwise indicates the temperature.
- The less energy is consumed, the more expensive is the initial purchase. However, the cost pays off in use and the resulting comparatively low cost.
- A++ and A+++ are the best energy classes and therefore recommended.
- A washing machine should not be filled to the brim with laundry, because otherwise the washing performance is impaired.
- For two or three people, a machine with 5 or 6 liters is sufficient.
- Families with children should choose a machine with a capacity of 8 kg or more, depending on the number of people.
- The revolutions of the washing machine should be adjustable (the more, the less wet the laundry is at the end, but then it will have more wrinkles).
- There are tumble dryers with soner functions (e.g. removal of pet hair or programs for allergy sufferers:inside).

FAQ For Laundry Care Appliances
How hot (and whether at all) you may wash a garment or other textiles, can be found in the product information. Usually there is also a small paper, which is attached to the corresponding product. What is not to be found there: Newly purchased textiles should be washed separately or with the same color, because there is usually discoloration. Towels, bed linen and hygiene articles should be washed as hot as possible, at 60 or even 90 degrees, depending on the manufacturer’s instructions. White laundry should not be mixed with black or colors, as this can also lead to unattractive discoloration. Also, the clothes or textiles should not be folded and put into the washing machine. Socks, for example, should not be rolled up, but washed completely unfolded. A tip: Special wash bags protect certain types of laundry, e.g. delicate pieces of lace or pantyhose, which otherwise get tangled.
As a general rule, you should get the wet laundry out of the machine as soon as possible after the wash cycle is finished. The reason for this is that otherwise germs and bacteria will form. Surely you know this typical musty smell when you have waited too long. Therefore, wait a few hours at most, but not a whole day. If the laundry stinks, you should better wash it again. Attention: It can also be that your washing machine is dirty. Then a new wash cycle is of little use. There are, for example, special washing machine cleaners that can eliminate germs and bacteria.
Usually there is a note in the form of a small label on the textiles themselves. This tells you whether and how the item can be dried. As a rule of thumb, if washing at 60 degrees is allowed, there is usually nothing to stop you from using the dryer. However, always check the manufacturer and product information.
Among other things, the energy efficiency is important for washing machines. The size and shape must also be selected depending on individual needs and circumstances. The result should always be clean laundry. Also, no one is happy if the machine gives up the ghost after only a few years. But due to the variety of offers, one is quickly overwhelmed. That’s why we’ve picked out the best washing machines and listed them in our guide. There you will also find other devices that make laundry care easier for you.
