Stroller Checklist

Models
  • Stroller with carrycot or soft carrycot for the baby’s first months.
  • Sport attachment from about 6 months, when your baby can sit freely.
  • There are stroller frames with adapters for infant carriers.
  • Combi strollers include a carrycot and sport seat and often other accessories.
Age And Load
  • A stroller is suitable from birth. It is important that your baby is not yet transported in a sitting position. Therefore, only the classic stroller is suitable for such small mice.
  • A buggy or a stroller with a seat should be chosen at the earliest from 6 months, because at this time the first babies can sit. Often, however, the whole thing takes a little longer, so it may make sense to switch to such a stroller only at about 9 months. Always pay attention to your child and the individual conditions, because every person is different and it is not at all bad if your child with half a year can not yet sit alone.
  • Many manufacturers make age recommendations with regard to their strollers, for example, there are infant strollers for the first time after birth.
  • You should urgently consider these age recommendations, because this not only ensures safety and a healthy posture, but also serves the age-specific needs.
Load Limit
  • Of course, overloading should always be avoided. In any case, stick to the manufacturer’s specifications and do not exceed the specified limits. Although the strollers can often withstand a little more, you should of course not expose your child to this risk.
  • Often there is a limit for the total load and a limit for the weight of the child. Sometimes there is also a load limit for integrated bags or baskets. Take all these specifications into account.
Tires And Suspension
  • 4 wheels provide a particularly stable stand.
  • 3 wheels are pleasantly maneuverable and good for narrow paths in stores or public transport, as the turning circle there is quite small.
  • The larger the wheels, the better the stroller is for uneven terrain.
  • Small wheels are more sensitive to sticks and stones.
  • It makes sense to have lockable front wheels:
    • If they are fixed, the stroller is more suitable for off-road use.
    • If they are loose, the turning circle is smaller.
  • Pneumatic tires run softer and cushion uneven ground better.
  • Plastic tires are more robust.
  • Place value on a good suspension.
Comfort For Your Child
  • Sufficiently large baby tub with good upholstery.
  • If necessary, an additional mattress for the baby tub.
  • The backrest of the sport seat is variable up to the lying position. So your child can lie comfortably and take a nap on the go.
  • Weather: sun canopy or sunshade, rain cover and fly net.
Comfort For You
  • The height and angle of the push bar should be adjustable so that you can walk comfortably.
  • The distance between the push bar and the rear wheels should be large enough so that you do not constantly kick the stroller when walking.
  • The lighter the stroller, the more comfortable it is to push for longer periods of time.
  • Note the folding dimensions if you have little space in the trunk, basement or hallway.
  • A soft carrycot is easier to transport if, for example, you leave the stroller downstairs at the entrance and have to carry your baby to the second floor.
  • A bassinet is bulkier, but safer because of the solid rim.
  • Accessories: Shopping net, a basket, bottle holders or bags are nice extras.
Safety
  • Make sure that the brake is easily accessible at all times.
  • Always secure your child in the sport seat with a harness.
  • Do not leave the stroller with child unattended.

Stroller Advice

Sooner or later, almost all parents are faced with the decision of which stroller to choose. But to choose the right one is not so easy. On the one hand, there are big differences in quality and on the other hand, it always depends on how you want to use the stroller and especially how long.

If you are not sure which stroller to buy, then read on and find out what type of stroller you are.

Do you want a universal stroller or is a buggy with expandability enough for you?

If you like a stroller that you can use as long as possible from birth, then you are Type A. But some buy a stroller rather as a buggy for the time when the child is already a little older. For example, because they prefer to use a sling before that. They enjoy the possibility to buy other accessories or even to use their own Maxi Cosi together with the stroller and do not need an integrated baby basket. If this description fits you, then you are type B.

You want a stroller with everything that goes with it?

You are type A!

You want a stroller that is suitable from birth and can later be converted into a stroller. These universal strollers are very practical, you have made a good decision!

For you, three different models from my top stroller recommendations come into question. The advantage: If you do not want, you do not need to buy accessories, but can usually still combine a Maxi Cosi or other car seat models. The ABC Design Condor 4, the Bugaboo Cameleon³ and the Amzdeal stroller are suitable for you.

The ABC Design Condor 4

The ABC Design Condor 4 comes directly with a carrycot for newborns to you and offers your baby from the first day of life a cozy and safe place for the road. The mattress is suitable for newborns and breathable. The scope of delivery also includes the stroller attachment, so that the ABC Design Condor 4 stroller adapts perfectly to the age of your child.

With UV protection 50+, the canopy protects not only from wind, but also from the sun, so that even longer walks in the summer are no problem. The direction of view of the seat can be easily directed forward or backward, depending on whether your baby needs the immediate proximity of parents, or would rather explore its environment.

The aluminum frame is pleasantly light and the spring-loaded swivel and lockable wheels make the stroller very maneuverable and suitable for all surfaces. If you want to use other accessories, you can combine most common infant carriers, such as the Maxi Cosi, or the Evolution pro with the help of an additional adapter.

The Condor 4 stroller convinces with a great quality and a good price-performance ratio. He accompanies parents and child the first three years without additional acquisition costs.

Bugaboo Cameleon³

Let’s face it, at first the price of the Cameleon³ stroller is off-putting. But you get what for your money and especially if you want to use the stroller for a long time, the Cameleon³ is a good investment.

He convinces not only with a pretty design, but is also very well thought out and can be used a little longer than the Condor 4.

The Bugaboo Cameleon³ stroller has 3 seating positions, a very good suspension and handling. The included bassinet guarantees a peaceful sleep and when your child gets older, it sits comfortably and safely in the easily adjustable seat, which is not only reversible, but also car seat compatible.

The Bugaboo stroller is a particularly well-designed model that guarantees parents very easy handling. He can also be moved well on all surfaces and thanks to rain protection, even the weather plays only a minor role. The stroller folds compactly and is self-standing, which is particularly convenient on the road.

Amzdeal stroller

For those who want to buy a universal stroller, but still don’t want to spend that much money, I recommend the Amzdeal stroller. It is a good stroller with everything that goes with it, which also has a practical elevated seating position to show for it.

Immediately after birth, your baby will sleep peacefully in the spacious sleeping basket on the way. The built-in pad made of fiberboard protects the sensitive back. The seat is adjustable in several ways, as is the viewing direction. Due to the built-in shock absorber springs, even uneven floor surfaces are no problem.

The special feature? The seat of the Amzdeal stroller is at 63 cm height, which means that the stroller can also be used well as a child seat for feeding and your child can participate more in the action. The height is also above the 40 cm air zone, which is particularly stressed and could harm your child.

The one-kick brake has a large lever, making it especially easy to use. The steering wheel is 3-way adjustable and adapts well to your size. Thanks to the two storage bags and the spacious basket under the seat, the Amzdeal stroller also offers a lot of storage space.

You want a stroller as a priority?

You are type B!

Many parents primarily want a stroller and otherwise resort to other means of transport, especially in the first few months, or would like to combine their car seat with the stroller when out and about. If you primarily want a stroller, then the Britax Go and the Hauck Runner are just right for you.

The Britax Go stroller with sport attachment

The Britax Go stroller comes with a sport attachment and is therefore suitable from 6 months. Very practical is the included adapter, with which all Britax Römer infant carriers and the Britax Go stroller attachment can also be combined with the stroller, if you want to use the stroller but a little earlier. The seat is very easy to replace with the Click and Go system.

The seat position can be set higher and lower, and the angle of view forward or backward, depending on your preference. Thanks to the good suspension and the swivel and lockable front wheels, the Britax Go is very maneuverable and also drives well on uneven surfaces.

Other great features include a mosquito net, multi-adjustable backrest and footrest, and reflective safety strips so the stroller is visible even in the dark.

The Britax Go is designed all around for ease of use, safety and comfort.

The Hauck Runner Stroller

The Hauck Runner is primarily a stroller, but convinces with practical reclining function. With an additionally available carrycot, the Hauck Runner can also be used from birth, otherwise only from an age of 6 months. It can be used up to an age of about 4 years, respectively a maximum weight of 22 kg and thus accompanies you and your child longer than most other strollers.

The Hauck Runner is especially great for active families. The swiveling and lockable front wheel and the suspension on each wheel provide a good ride and a high seating comfort – whether in the forest, on the beach or in the snow.

In summer, the sun canopy with UV protection and the mesh fabric of the canopy ensure good air circulation and sufficient sun protection. Practical for parents are the 30 cm adjustable push handle and the spacious basket, which offers space for shopping or provisions on longer trips. Now to our TOP 5 stroller selection.

Stroller Info

You need a stroller for this.

Many parents wonder whether it is not possible without a stroller and would like to do without the bulky vehicle on the road. But a good stroller is more than recommendable. At the latest when your child grows up, you can no longer simply transport it in a practical sling. But even before that, a stroller can be a comfortable help.

Through the cozy and protected baby baskets, your baby can sleep protected and quiet. In addition, most strollers offer plenty of storage space for shopping or the diaper bag.

With a good stroller you are still active after birth, because a stroller can go anywhere and takes up little space when folded.

Meanwhile, there are strollers not only with different great features but also in different colors and designs – from classic to futuristic, so there is one for every taste.

What You Should Consider Before Buying

The reason for this post is that I had to find out myself how difficult it is to find the right stroller for your needs. Therefore, I would like to give you some information and advice on the way, so you know what you should look for when buying a stroller

What types of strollers are there?

There are five types of strollers, so it is even more difficult to make a good choice. To help you decide a little, I’ll give you a brief overview of the different strollers and their strengths.

Combi stroller

Combi strollers are very practical and popular. They can be used from birth until about the fourth year of life, because they are with baby bath both infant strollers, but also serve as a buggy when your child is already a little bigger. With many models, the attachment is simply changed depending on the size of the child. Some are particularly practical and can even be used as a car seat. So if you want to be fully equipped for the first years and don’t want to go searching for products again, you should go for a practical and comfortable combination model.

First years stroller

First-time strollers are specially designed to meet the needs of newborns. They offer a flat lying surface and usually have large pneumatic tires so that bumps and unevenness of the ground are compensated particularly well. First-time strollers are only suitable for the first few months and cannot be converted. On the other hand, they offer a particularly high level of safety and reliably cushion shocks.

Jogger

For sporty parents, the purchase of a jogger or sports buggy is perfect. However, this should only be used when your child can already sit. Joggers are usually equipped with extra large wheels, which are especially suitable for uneven surfaces. When buying should also pay attention to a good suspension to protect the spine of the child.

Buggies

If your child can already sit, then a buggy is great for traveling, because it is more compact than a stroller. Your child can discover the world while sitting and can also be gently rocked to sleep with a reclining backrest.

Multiple stroller

Many parents know this: The first child is still in the buggy age and the next one is already there. For this, there are special strollers that can accommodate two or even more children – either side by side or one behind the other. These strollers are also super suitable for twins. For children of the same age, a stroller where the seats are side by side is recommended. For children with age difference, a stroller is recommended where the seats are one behind the other. There the baby lies safely and close to the push bar and the older siblings can discover the world in the front area of the stroller.

Function

The question of function is very important. Depending on how you want to use the stroller, different models offer themselves. Many want a stroller that can be used from birth. Others use the stroller only sporadically – for them, a stroller with a sport attachment that can be combined with infant carriers in case of need is enough.

Personally, I recommend you to buy a combination stroller, which offers you three models in one. It is a great companion from the first life of your little treasure and accompanies you reliably in everyday life until the 4th year of life – in the beginning with baby bath and later with the practical sport attachment. Combi strollers are usually a little more expensive than other models, but if you consider the long service life, then the purchase is worth it.

Also, you should think about where you want to use your stroller primarily. If you use it mainly asphalt in the city, then you can do little wrong with the tires. If you often want to go out into the forest or over other uneven surfaces, then you should pay particular attention to the suspension and the type of tires, because the maneuverability is then a decisive factor.

In any case, it is always advisable to buy a stroller with tires that are both swiveling and lockable.

Weight and folding dimensions

Many strollers now have a frame made of aluminum, because this is particularly light and therefore well suited for carrying. Lightweight strollers are easier to handle and transport, so always check the weight of the model before buying.

Another important point is the folding dimensions, especially if you want the stroller to fit in the trunk when folded. There are also some suitable models for small trunks. So remember to check if the stroller is small enough when folded.

Comfort

Comfort includes some important features that I would not want to miss in a stroller. Of course, your child should lie and sit comfortably, and the spine should be protected. The backrest should be adjustable several times. The viewing direction is also important. Make sure that the viewing direction is adjustable to the front and back. Most babies feel more comfortable in the early days when they can see their parents (and parents usually feel the same way). But when your child gets a little older, he also becomes more curious and wants to explore his environment. That’s why it makes sense if the viewing direction can also be adjusted to the front. It makes sense to make sure that the mattress can be placed in the head area, because this makes feeding on the go easier.

Of course, a canopy is important, because it protects your baby primarily from wind, but also from rain and sunlight. For parents who like to be outside a lot in the summer, a canopy with UV protection is recommended.

Not only the child should be comfortable, but also the parents. This starts with the handlebar. The handle of the stroller should be sufficiently adjustable so that both parents can push the stroller comfortably.

The stroller should be easy and quick to fold. It is also particularly great if it still stands by itself when folded. Another practical feature is the click and go system that some models have, which makes it easy and convenient to remove or replace the stroller seats.

Also, you should be able to easily operate the foot brake to lock the stroller conveniently and quickly. Other great accessories include a large basket and possibly even additional pockets for bottles, changing accessories or shopping. Make sure that the basket is easy to reach, because some models lack space.

Strollers are usually equipped with pneumatic wheels or wheels made of rubber or solid plastic. If you want to use the stroller in the first months after birth, then you should definitely choose pneumatic wheels, because they reliably cushion shocks and bumps in the ground and thus protect your baby’s spine better than the rubber variant. Many people also wonder: which is better, three wheels or four wheels? I find that both types of stroller can be driven well. The 3-wheeled version seems more maneuverable at first, since the models with 4 wheels mostly have swiveling front wheels, they can be driven just as well.

Practical accessories should also be given importance. Practical are a rain cover or for sunny days a mosquito net, or a sunshade with UV protection. Super is also, especially with Buges, a cup holder. A feature that I would not do without is the storage area under the seat with space for shopping and the diaper bag.

Safety

Of course, the stroller should have sufficient suspension and the seat and reclining surface should be padded so that it is comfortable to steer even on uneven surfaces and your child is not jolted back and forth. In general, the stroller should make a stable impression. The best way to convince yourself of this is to shake it a bit. When buying on the Internet, it is always worth taking a look at the reviews.

The stroller should have at least a 5-point harness, so that your child sits safely even in an elevated position. Especially in the first few months, you should go for pneumatic wheels, as these cushion shocks better. Equally important is a good and high-quality suspension, because the spine of your baby is still developing and very sensitive.

Reflectors are also practical, so that the stroller can be easily seen in the dark.
