- There are three different variants of the column grill: The column grill round, the column grill square and the funnel grill. Charcoal is used as the grilling material.
- There are also electric column gr ills available, but in this case the column serves only for the optics.
- Column gr ills provide rapid heating of charcoal and high temperatures due to the chimney draft effect. The chimney draft effect can be regulated by a ventilation slider.
- Column grills round and square differ in the shape and size of the grill grate.
- Round: usually available with grill grate size between 35 and 63 centimeters in diameter.
- Square: has a grill surface of 62 to 73 centimeters in length on average.
- The funnel grill is a special form of the column grill. Because of the funnel shape, you don’t need as much charcoal. The shape becomes wider and larger towards the top, and the chimney effect ensures even heating. The large grilling surface of 48 to 71 centimeters is another plus point.
- Pay attention to height adjustability. It’s uncomfortable in the long run if you have to bend over while grilling. Most column grills have a base height of at least 72 centimeters. Height adjustability allows you to raise the grill grate to a comfortable height of just under a meter.
- Stainless steel is mostly used, and in general it should be noted that a high-priced grill is equipped with sturdier sheet metal. If the sheet metal is too thin, it can cause deformation.
- On the other hand, extremely strong sheet metal increases the weight of the grill, which is in the range of five to twelve kilograms.
- The ash collection container at the base of the column facilitates cleaning. Indirect grilling is made possible by a cover hood. This function is not available with the funnel grill. If the column grill has casters, this makes it easier to change locations. Windbreaks should be included in the scope of delivery.
- You have to calculate with 40 to 230 EUR for the round or the square column grill, the funnel grill is available for 40 to 300 EUR. The professional funnel grill costs over 300 EUR.
