Ooh la la! Can you believe it? I’m related to Fancy Nancy! Well, sort of..
My husband’s cousin is playing Fancy Nancy on a cross country tour this summer. Luckily they just visited our town and my daughter got to meet Fancy Nancy herself. It was a great experience for my preschooler.
Because my older daughter is just in preschool, we hadn’t really delved into the Fancy Nancy world much. When we found out Ally Young Price was playing Fancy Nancy and would actually be coming to a town near us, we immediately headed to Target and picked up a book or two.
I love these Reading Level books and I think the Level 1 is perfect for a preschooler. They are quick reads, so their attention span doesn’t wander and they use words and phrases a preschooler understands.
Speaking of words my preschooler understands, one of the best things about the Fancy Nancy Books is that they introduce bigger (fancier) words but also describe them in words that my preschooler already knows. So they are increasing her vocabulary and her imagination at the same time.
The play is about an hour long (just long enough for preschoolers) and includes some really cute, original songs. My preschooler really enjoyed the singing and dancing. The story is about Fancy Nancy being cast as a tree in her school musical when she really wanted to be the lead actress as a mermaid.
Ally Young Price as Fancy Nancy did a fabulous job. She is a very talented young lady and already has quite a long list of accomplishments behind her. I love the “quirks” on her resume – she can throw a football really well and also touch her tongue to her nose.
The tour ends on May 28th, so there isn’t much time left. They are playing in Texarkana, TX on May 23rd and Nashville, TN on May 27th. There are also regional productions which you can find on their website.
