The 9 Best Nasal Aspirators – Guidebook

Great help for little noses: when the little noses have a cold….

…they need support! In my search for the ideal nasal aspirator, however, I also had some rivets. Nasal aspirators (also nasal mucus remover or nasal secretion aspirator) are available in various designs.

In principle, they all work according to the same system. A nozzle is held under or in the nose. By means of a vacuum, which can be produced electrically or manually, the secretion is sucked out. Nasal aspirators can be electric devices themselves, connected to the vacuum cleaner, or operated manually.

I have compiled my selection of recommendations for you here.

Enjoy reading and shopping.

Checklist Nasal Aspirator

Models
  • There are two different nasal aspirator models: an electric and a manual version.
  • In the electric nasal aspirator, the vacuum for aspirating the nasal fluid is generated electrically.
  • With manual nasal aspirators, you create the vacuum yourself by squeezing the end of the nasal asp irator with your fingers before inserting it into your nose.
  • In addition, there are nasal aspirators where the vacuum is generated by a standard vacuum cleaner.
  • Very fancy models have 2 heads at once, so that both nostrils can be vacuumed at the same time.
Material
  • The device itself is mostly made of plastic, while the tips are made of soft material such as silicone, so that your child does not hurt himself during operation.
  • The material should be free of harmful substances, that is, free of BPA and plasticizers.
Accessories
  • Nasal aspirators are often supplemented by practical accessories.
  • There are various attachments for the nipple in different sizes and shapes.
  • Likewise, tweezers may be included in the set.
  • A child-friendly design can help distract your child during the sucking process, as many children resist the device.
  • Transport boxes make storing and transporting the nasal aspirator very convenient.
Cleaning
  • Clean the nasal asp irator directly after use, so no residue will settle and you can clean it easily.
  • The cleaning process is very intuitive with most devices.
  • Simply hold the head of the nasal asp irator under the tap and rinse it.
  • On electric models, the electronics are isolated from the head , so they won’t be damaged during cleaning
  • Some models also have a so-called “hummingbird head”, which makes rinsing even easier due to its shape.

Nasal Aspirator Advice

When the little nose is cold, it is often difficult for the offspring to breathe freely and sleep. So a slight cold can sometimes become a test of nerves for the whole family. To provide a quick remedy, nasal aspirators are the perfect solution! With so many different products to choose from, it’s easy to lose track of what you’re looking for. It’s best to first ask yourself what kind of nasal aspirator you basically want.

Do you want an electric or a manual nasal aspirator?

Electric nasal aspirators are often more effective than manual ones. However, they often put little ones under stress due to louder noises and many children are even afraid. Also, if used incorrectly, the risk of injury is higher than with manually operated nasal aspirators.

You want an electric nasal aspirator?

You are type A!

An electric-powered nasal aspirator is often more effective and powerful than manual nasal aspirators. I’ve gathered all the info on my top 3 electric nasal aspirators and am now introducing them to you.

The Nosiboo Nasal Aspirator

The Nosiboo is one of the premium choices. Although it is not particularly inexpensive, it offers absolutely what it promises: a high-quality medical product that fulfills its tasks perfectly. Due to the childlike design, it has absolutely no deterrent effect on the little snuffy darlings. The adjustable levels allow the device to be used individually and according to need.

The Angel-Vac

If you don’t want to spend so much money on the electric nasal aspirator, the Angel-Vac is the best alternative to the Nosiboo. You connect the attachment to your standard vacuum cleaner. The Angel-Vac then regulates the power and suction.

The Funtok Nosibac

The Funtok Nasal Vacuum, although electrically powered, is very quiet. Powered by batteries, the device has 3 suction levels and can thus be adjusted to the power used. The small practical Funtok has the additional function of being able to play music and with lights the baby.

You want a manually operated nasal aspirator?

You are type B!

A manually operated nasal aspirator is particularly gentle on the baby’s nose. The risk of injury is much lower compared to the electrically operated version.

The Fuchsi Baby nasal aspirator

You can use the Fuchsi nasal aspirator already from birth. Since babies only breathe through their nose but are not yet able to blow out the mucus themselves, you can keep their nose clean with the Fuchsi. The medically approved product is operated with an oral aspirator. So you suck on a tube the secretions in the nose of your baby. These then collect in the head at the front of the hose. The suction head is easily washable and easy to clean.

The Nuk nasal aspirator

The Nuk nasal aspirator is specially designed to gently and carefully remove nasal secretions. By squeezing the bellows, slight negative pressure is created so that when released slowly, the mucus in the nose is sucked out. When used correctly and with attention to a few tricks, the nasal aspirator can quickly provide relief.

Nasal Aspirator Info

If your little darling has a cold and can hardly sleep because of a constantly blocked nose, help is needed! Babies cannot blow their noses vigorously until they are about 3 years old. Newborns can only breathe through their nose for the first 6 months. So this should always be free.

But what to do when the child has a cold?

Especially for newborns, a blocked nose is extremely annoying. Breathing does not go smoothly, the baby can no longer drink well, is irritable and restless. This also quickly triggers stress for mom and dad, because you want to make sure your little one is doing well.

With a handkerchief, you can provide virtually no help. On the contrary, in fact. With the tangled cloth, there is a risk of pushing the secretion even deeper into the mucous membranes. A nasal aspirator, on the other hand, can provide quick relief. Many doctors and pharmacists recommend additionally administering nasal drops to decongest the sinuses after use. It is best to ask your doctor or pharmacist which drops are suitable for your baby.

What is a nasal aspirator and how does it work?

Designed to easily remove nasal secretions, nasal aspirators help your baby breathe easier quickly and without medication. You may already know about nasal aspirators from your ENT doctor, who also uses them on adults. For babies, special products have been developed with adapted suction power and easy handling.

The tip of the nasal aspirator is minimally inserted into the nostril of the child and creates a vacuum there. The vacuum allows the secretion to be removed from the nose. The procedure takes only a few seconds and is completely painless. With any device, however, it is essential to pay attention to the correct application.

My tip: To ensure that the secretion is not too viscous or even dry, give your baby enough liquid so that it becomes softer and can be suctioned off more easily.

What types of nasal aspirators are there?

Nasal aspirators, also known as nasal mucus removers or nasal secretion aspirators, come in several varieties. In all models, a nozzle is held under the nose or something is inserted and with generated vacuum, the secretion is pumped out. The difference in the aspirators is how the vacuum is generated. This can happen manually or electrically.

Nasal Vacuum Cleaner

Nasal vacuums that are connected to the normal vacuum cleaner are also called nasal vacuums. Here it is essential to note that the suction of secretion does not happen through the vacuum cleaner, but only with its support. As a rule, the devices reduce the suction power regardless of the vacuum cleaner set. Practical about these models is that you only pay for the attachment and do not have to buy the more expensive version with its own electric drive.

Battery-powered nose vacuum cleaner

Here, the suction power is also regulated automatically. Deep-seated nasal mucus can be removed well and easily. In most cases, the models are about the size of an electric toothbrush. With customizable attachments, the suckers can be adapted to the respective nose sizes.

Mouth Aspirator

The nasal aspirators, which are operated manually with the help of two tubes, are very gentle on the baby’s nose. The tubes are connected to each other via a small collection container. One end is then held under the nose. The second tube is used to suction out the nasal secretions using mom or dad’s mouth. One disadvantage with these models is that you can’t soothe your offspring during the procedure. The little ones are often unsettled during the procedure.

Ball Pump

The simplest system of nasal aspirators consists of the ball pump. Here, the vacuum is created by squeezing the ball-shaped bellows. When the handle is loosened, the air flows back into the ball and pulls the secretion with it. These models are well suited for easily flowing secretions. In the case of stuck mucus, the suction power is often insufficient.

What to look for:

The attachments or spouts should be round and soft. Sharp edges have a high risk of injuring the sensitive inner sides of the nose. A good manufacturer is characterized by several attachments supplied in different sizes. This will allow the nipple to be used for several years. Transparent attachments are particularly suitable for taking a look at the color and consistency of the secretion. To choose products that are free of harmful substances, it is best to look for the BPA-free seal.

Easy cleaning is also important. So that you can always keep the model free of bacteria and germs, I recommend devices that can be easily disassembled and boiled. Some vacuum cleaners can also be cleaned in the dishwasher.
