Compressors are indispensable in many home workshops. Many tools and machines are universally combinable with the compressor, so your work is made easier. Whether work with high bar numbers or the clean blowing of the machines, a compressor is helpful in many situations.
To help you find the right compressor for your workshop, we have created a checklist for compressors. In our product recommendations you will find some compressors in comparison.
- A versatile compressor should be able to build up a maximum pressure of at least 8 bar . Special airbrush compressors are an exception. These are designed for lower pressure ranges.
- A pressure reducer helps you to regulate the pressure. This way, the tank can have a higher pressure and the connected tool can still be controlled with less bar.
- Just like the pressure switch , a pressure reducer should be easy to remove and replace in the event of a defect.
- A compact compressor has an output of up to 2 kW. Heavy-duty workshop compressors reach 2.5 kW and more. It is operated via a simple 230 volt socket.
- More important than the power rating in KW is the specific output power of a compressor.
- Most copies are in a range of up to 150 liters per minute. The larger models can achieve up to 250 liters per minute.
- However, if several and intensively used compressed air lines are to be connected, devices with up to 500 liters of output capacity per minute are suitable.
- The compressed air produced by most compressors is temporarily stored in a tank. This means that the motor only switches on when the air pressure falls below a certain level.
- The minimum boiler size is considered to be 20 liters of tank volume. This is sufficient for blowing out, painting and sandblasting.
- For more demanding tasks and tools, between 60 and 250 liters of tank size are suitable. Impact wrenches in particular benefit from a high tank volume.
- Many cordless and mini compressors with 12 volts (for connection to the cigarette lighter) managewithout a tank. However, these are only suitable for inflating balls, car, motorcycle and bicycle tires.
- A compressor with oil lubrication has a longer service life. It overheats more heavily and is more resilient. This makes it suitable for frequent use.
- Apart from being easier to maintain, systems without oil lubrication have the advantage that the compressed air cannot become contaminated. This is particularly important for painting and airbrushing.

FAQ About Compressors
Compressors generate pressure through which compressed air can then be used for various purposes, such as inflating a tire or cleaning through compressed air.
By compressing gases, compressors ensure that a lot of air is available at once, for example. A compressor can therefore be seen as a machine-driven air pump.
Compressors with a value of 50 bar*liter or more are subject to testing and must be tested every 5 years.
Compressors for private use are available in the three-digit range. Industrial compressors can cost several tens of thousands of euros.
